Program Reputation

Player Issues -In general Betfair generate a very low level of player complaints. The major problems with this operator surround a promotion run in 2010 in their casino. The ‘Happy Hour’ promotion was exceptionally generous to players and ultimately resulted in Betfair losing a substantial amount of money. Rather than accepting that they made a mistake, Betfair chose to confiscate balances and lock player accounts of large numbers of players who played in the Happy Hour promotion.

For references see – http://thepogg.com/appendix-casino-reviews/#Betfair.

Affiliate Issues – We are aware of no unresolved affiliate issues at any major affiliate portals.

Conclusion

The main player issues with Betfair are years old and there’s not been any significant problems since. This doesn’t change the position of ThePOGG.com that we will not send any casino players to Betfair, but we do accept that it’s not an unreasonable decision for other affiliates to promote Betfair.

That being the case the real question is whether or not an affiliate should want to promote Betfair based on the terms and conditions on offer. Unfortunately the terms don’t make for great reading. The problems as we’d see them are as follows:

• Discretionary allowance for Negative Carryover policies – if your players have a win large enough to create a significant negative balance for you, this creates a situation where you no longer have any incentive to carry on marketing the program’s brands. This leads to a short-term mind set to working relationship between the affiliate and the program. This term may not always be enforced, but not knowing whether it will or won’t creates and unstable relationship.

• Minimum activity quota – this makes the Betfair Partnerships Affiliate program significantly less attractive to any small affiliate/affiliate running a small site meaning that regardless of revenue generated you’re always likely to end up earning at the minimum revenue level. Alongside this, for larger affiliates, unless you are intending to specifically push Bet-At-Home (include them in your top 10), there’s a good chance you will be met with the same challenges as smaller affiliates. It should also be remembered that if you ever reduce the exposure these operators receive (i.e. decide to stop working with this group), revenue from your historical player sign-ups will subsequently be reduced to minimum levels.

• Reducing revenue levels on historic player in the sports exchange to uncompetitive levels.

While the above are far from the worst terms we’ve seen in the affiliate market, they certainly aren’t affiliate friendly. For the practical disadvantages highlighted by these terms we’d be inclined to discourage affiliates from choosing Betfair Partnerships.
